Well deepening and repair
Well deepening in Chișinău and its suburbs, for when the water drops in summer: we dig under the old rings and lower repair rings so the well reaches deeper water. At the same time we redo the joints that let in soil and rainwater. We give the price once we have been down and seen the rings.

What we repair
We work from inside the well, without digging it out again from the top, so the yard around it stays as it is. We need access to the well and a socket for the pump.
-
Deepening
We dig under the last ring and lower narrower repair rings until we reach deeper water.
-
Joints
We clean and seal the joints between rings so sand stops coming in and the water stays clear after rain.
-
Shifted rings
We fix rings that have moved out of line together with metal brackets and seal the gap.
-
The top
We rebuild the top ring and the ground around it so rainwater runs away from the well.
Why a well runs dry
The cause tells us what to repair, so we first pump the well out and look at the bottom and walls. Sometimes there are two causes at once.
-
The water has dropped
After a few dry years, which Moldova sees more and more often, the summer water sits below the bottom of the well even if spring is fine. Then we deepen it with repair rings until we reach water.
-
The bottom has silted up
Sand has raised the bottom and blocked the spring; sometimes well cleaning is enough.
-
Water gets in at the joints
Surface water brings soil and smells into the well, especially in spring and after heavy rain. Then we redo the joints and tie the shifted rings together.
How we deepen a well
Three steps, with the well pumped out. We work in pairs: one below, one on top.
-
Pump out and clean
We take out the water and silt to see the bottom, the joints and the state of the rings, then tell you what needs doing and what it costs.
-
Dig under the rings
We dig under the last ring and lower the repair rings one by one while the pump takes out the water coming in from below.
-
Seal and hand over
We fix the rings, seal the joints, put gravel on the bottom and pump out the first cloudy water until it clears.

How much does deepening a well cost?
We price the deepening after seeing the well: how deep it is, what state the rings are in and how many new rings it needs. Repair rings are counted like the rings of a new well, and repairing a ring well also depends on how many joints have opened. You know the total before we start. You buy the repair rings or we bring them, with the receipt.
How much deeper can a well go?
Usually a few rings, until we reach water that comes in fast enough. Repair rings are narrower, so the well gets slightly narrower at the bottom, but a bucket and a pump still pass easily. If the water is very deep or the old rings are badly damaged, a new well next to it is sometimes the better choice, and we dig those too.
Can an old stone well be deepened?
Sometimes. An old stone or brick well can be deepened with concrete rings set underneath if the upper walls are sound and the stones are not falling out. We clean the walls and repair them where needed. We look at them on the visit and tell you whether it is worth it or a new ring well is simpler.
