Trench digging for water, cable and gas

Trench digging in Chișinău and its suburbs for the water pipe, electric cable or gas: by hand where the yard is narrow or finished, and by mini excavator on open ground. The price is per metre, and you get it once we have seen the route.

Which trenches we dig

Depth and width depend on what goes in the trench, and on the soil: in clay the walls stand straight, in made ground we slope them.

  • For water

We dig it 1.2 m deep, so the pipe lies below the ground that freezes and does not burst in winter.

  • For cable

From the pole to the house or the gate, with the cable in a duct and warning tape above.

  • For gas

We dig to the design; the pipe and the connection are done by Moldovagaz or a firm they authorise.

  • Narrow trench

We dig it by hand, a shovel wide, between paths, fences and trees, without spoiling the yard.

By hand or by mini excavator

We choose by the yard. Often the machine and the shovel both work on the same plot.

  • By hand

Where the access is narrower than 1.5 m or there are old services in the ground, we dig by shovel, as with all manual digging. A hand-dug trench is priced per metre.

  • By mini excavator

On open ground and for long trenches we dig by mini excavator with a narrow bucket. A machine-dug trench is priced by the machine hour, not per metre.

  • Both

The machine digs the long run, and by the house, under paths and near old pipes we carry on with shovels. That way you do not pay for hand digging where a machine could go.

How we dig a trench

Three steps, from marking out to backfill. You show us where the pipe or cable starts and ends.

  1. We mark the route

We ask where old pipes and cables run and mark the route on the ground. If gas runs nearby, the gas service shows us the pipe first.

  2. We dig

We dig to the depth needed, pile the soil on one side and clean the bottom so the pipe or cable lies straight.

  3. We backfill

After laying, we add sand, then soil, and compact in layers so the trench does not sink after the first rain.

Common questions

Can't find the answer? Ask us in the request form or on Viber, WhatsApp or Telegram.

How much does a metre of trench cost?

A hand-dug trench is priced per metre, and the starting price is for a depth of 1.2 m. It costs more on rock, hard clay or a deeper trench, and less on long trenches across open ground dug by mini excavator. We give you the price once we have seen the route, and it stays the same unless the ground hides something nobody could see.

How deep is a trench for a water pipe?

About 1.2 m, so the pipe lies below the depth the ground freezes to in winter in Moldova. For cable 0.7-0.8 m is usually enough, and for gas the design sets the depth. We make it wide enough to work at the bottom and bed the pipe on sand.

Do you backfill the trench after laying?

Yes, if you want. Once the pipe or cable is in, we add sand, then put the soil back and compact it. If the gas service or the network operator has to see the pipe first, we backfill after their check. Spare soil can go away by tipper truck.
