House and garden drainage in Chișinău
Drainage around the house and across the garden in Chișinău and its suburbs: we dig the trench along the foundation or across the plot, lay geotextile, gravel and drain pipe to a fall, and lead the water to a soakaway or a ditch. On clay, water does not soak away and sits against the foundation; drainage collects it and takes it away from the house.

What drainage includes
Drainage around a house is done once, so we do the whole system: from the trench to the place the water goes.
-
The trench
Perimeter drainage runs along the foundation, slightly below its base; across the plot it goes where water stands in spring.
-
Geotextile and gravel
Geotextile keeps the clay out of the gravel so the drain does not clog and water reaches the pipe freely.
-
Drain pipe
We lay perforated pipe to a fall, with chambers at the corners for flushing.
-
Water outlet
The water goes to a soakaway, a ditch or the storm drain, away from the house and the well.
When you need drainage
The signs usually show in spring and after long rain, when the clay around the house is full of water.
-
Damp in the cellar
Water comes through the cellar walls or stands on the floor after rain. Most often it is groundwater rising in spring; sometimes it comes from a neighbour's plot that sits higher.
-
Puddles in the yard
Water stands for days on the clay, does not soak in and washes out the paths. Then the drainage goes across the yard, not only around the house.
-
Damp low on the walls
Stains and mould appear at the base of the walls and the plaster flakes. Drainage goes together with waterproofing the foundation while it is exposed.
How we lay drainage
Three steps. Digging is easiest in summer and early autumn, when the ground is dry.
-
We see where water sits
We look at the slope, the soil, the depth of the foundation and where the water can go. If it cannot run off by gravity, we put in a drainage well with a pump.
-
We dig and lay
We dig the trench to a fall towards the well, lay the geotextile, a layer of gravel and the pipe.
-
We cover
We cover the pipe with gravel, wrap the geotextile over it, put the soil back and check with water that everything drains into the well.

How much does drainage around a house cost?
We price drainage after seeing the house: the length of the trench, the depth of the foundation and where the water goes. The digging is priced like a trench per metre, and the pipe, gravel, geotextile and chambers are added by quantity. That is why we price a full drainage job as a whole, and the price per metre differs from house to house. You know the total before we start.
How deep is foundation drainage?
Slightly below the base of the foundation, to catch the water before it reaches it. For a house with a cellar, the drain goes below the cellar floor. Garden drainage, under a lawn for example, is usually shallower, but the pipe always falls towards the well. We measure the depth on site.
Can an old house get drainage?
Yes, along the existing foundation, in sections, so the ground under it does not give way. An old house usually has a path, pipes and trees right by the walls, so there we dig by hand and pile the soil away from the wall.
Is water sitting at your foundation?
Tell us where the water collects, at what time of year and whether the house has a cellar. We come to see the plot; Sapat.md digs by hand where a machine does not fit.
