Manual digging in Chișinău

Manual digging in Chișinău and its suburbs, where a machine cannot get in or would spoil the yard: right by the house, between trees and paths, in a cellar or under a fence. Our diggers work with shovel and pickaxe and take the soil out by wheelbarrow. Pits are priced per cubic metre, trenches per metre.

What we dig by hand

Any digging can be done by hand. Sometimes it is the only way, and sometimes it is simply cheaper than bringing a machine for one pit.

  • Pits and foundations

For the foundation of an extension, a terrace, a summer kitchen or a fence, with straight walls.

  • Narrow trenches

For pipes and cables across a finished yard, with no wheel or track marks left behind.

  • Post holes

For fence, gate or gazebo posts, to the depth needed and straight along the string line.

  • Indoors

In a cellar, under the house or in a garage, where no machine fits; the soil comes out by bucket.

When digging is done by hand

A machine is faster, but it does not fit everywhere, and it is not worth bringing everywhere. If only a person with a wheelbarrow can get through, we dig by hand however much soil there is.

  • Tight access

There is less than 1.5 m between the house and the fence, or the gate is too narrow for a machine. Many old yards in Chișinău and the villages around are like that.

  • A finished yard

You have lawn, paving, trees and flowers you want to keep. A shovel leaves no ruts, and we work around the roots of big trees.

  • Services in the ground

There are old pipes and cables in the ground that are on no plan. With a shovel we find them without breaking them; a bucket tears them at once.

How we work

Three steps. You show us where to dig, where the soil can go and, if you know, where old pipes run.

  1. We see the spot

We measure the pit or trench, look at the soil and where it can go, and give you the price per cubic metre or per metre before we start.

  2. We dig

We dig and wheel the soil out onto sheeting, so the grass around stays clean. On hard clay we use pickaxe and crowbar, and we check the depth and the walls as we go.

  3. We clear up

We leave the soil where you say, or load it and take it away by tipper truck.

Common questions

Can't find the answer? Ask us in the request form or on Viber, WhatsApp or Telegram.

How much does a cubic metre of hand digging cost?

Hand digging is priced per cubic metre. The price depends mainly on the soil: it costs more on hard clay, on rock or at depth, where the soil is harder to get out. For a trench we quote per metre, for a pit per cubic metre. To work out the volume of a pit, multiply its length, width and depth in metres.

Do you dig fence post holes?

Yes. We dig the holes to the depth and width the post needs, usually 0.8-1 m, and leave the soil beside them for concreting. When there are many holes in a row, we count them and give you one price for all. For a fence on a strip foundation we dig a trench, priced per metre.

Who takes the soil away?

We leave the soil in the yard where you say, or load it into a tipper truck and take it away. Removal is priced per load, separately from the digging. If the truck cannot reach the pit, we first wheel the soil to the gate. When the yard is short of space, it is better to take the soil away as we go rather than all at the end.

A machine will not fit in your yard?

Tell us what needs digging and how much room there is; a photo helps. Sapat.md comes with shovels and gives you the price per cubic metre.
