Foundation digging for houses, extensions and pools

Foundation digging in Chișinău and its suburbs for a house, extension, garage or fence: we dig the trench for a strip foundation or the whole pit, to the designer's plan, by hand or by mini excavator. We dig pool pits the same way. We price per cubic metre of soil or by the machine hour.

What we dig for a foundation

The design sets the shape of the dig: we take the width, depth and bottom level from it. Without a design, we dig to the dimensions your builder gives.

  • Foundation trench

For the strip foundation of a house or a fence, with straight walls and room for the formwork.

  • Full pit

For a house with a cellar or a raft foundation, with all the soil taken out.

  • Pool pit

With a level bottom and sloped sides, to the pool's dimensions and with room around it for installation.

  • The spoil

We keep it in the yard for backfill later, or load it and take it away by tipper truck.

By hand or by machine

We choose by the size of the pit and the space around it. Often the machine takes out the bulk and the shovel finishes.

  • By mini excavator

For a house or a pool on open ground. The pit comes out fast, and we finish the corners and the bottom by shovel so we do not dig below the design level.

  • By hand

For an extension, a fence or next to an old house, where a machine does not fit or could disturb the old foundation. A fence trench is often cheaper dug by hand than with a machine brought in for it.

  • By backhoe loader

For big pits with a lot of soil: the backhoe loader digs and loads straight into the tipper truck, so the yard is not buried in soil. See our excavation work.

How we dig a foundation

Three steps. We need the design or at least a plan with dimensions, and room in the yard for the soil.

  1. We set out

We mark the lines from the plan with string and pegs and check with you where the walls will go.

  2. We dig

We dig to the level in the design and check the bottom with a level. If the bottom is soft made ground, we tell you and dig down to firm soil.

  3. We clean the bottom

We clear loose soil and leave the pit ready for the sand bed, formwork and rebar. If the concrete is not poured straight away, it is best to cover the bottom with sheeting against rain.

Common questions

Can't find the answer? Ask us in the request form or on Viber, WhatsApp or Telegram.

How much does digging a house foundation cost?

A foundation is priced per cubic metre of soil taken out, or by the machine hour when a mini excavator or backhoe loader digs. The total depends on the size of the house, the depth in the design and how much soil has to go; removal is priced per load, separately. We work out the volume from the plan and give you the price after seeing the plot, before work starts.

How deep is a foundation dug?

As the design says. Usually below frost depth and down to firm ground, which means at least 0.8-1 m in Moldova; for a house with a cellar, much deeper. On clay a pit is best not left open in the rain for long: a soaked bottom has to be cleaned out again.

Do you dig pool pits?

Yes. We dig the pit to the pool's dimensions with a level bottom and room around it for installation. For a concrete pool we leave room for the wall formwork; for a ready-made shell the pit is a little bigger than the shell. Pool pits are priced the same way, per cubic metre or by the hour. We take the soil away or leave it for levelling the yard.
